Kirby’s Dream Buffet sees players taking on the role of Kirby (or one of the other unlockable characters from across the franchise) and rolling their way across a variety of courses built around delightfully tasty foods, with the ultimate goal being to reach the end and eat one of the cakes that’s waiting there.
It makes for a fun and charming experience too, though it’s one that does feel like it runs out of steam quite quickly – especially with its lack of overall variety. Think of it as Nintendo’s take on the Fall Guys formula, with players contending with one another across races and competitive mini-games in order to determine the grand strawberry-gobbling champion. The more strawberries Kirby eats, the more rewards he’ll get, like the cheeseburger hat and cookies featuring characters from across the Kirby series. Battle Royale will have players knocking their opponents off the stage and stealing their strawberries. In the Minigame mode, players have to eat as many strawberries as they can within the time allotted, with the strawberries either falling from the sky or hidden in cookie boxes. In the first gam, players have to eat a lot of strawberries to grow bigger and gain strength over other racers, and can get even further ahead with Food Copy Abilities, such as the Tornado cupcake to suck in all the strawberries and the Hi-Jump gummy to bounce from one area of the track to another to reach the goal of eating a mountain of strawberries. There are three types of modes to compete in: Race, Mini-game, and Battle Royale.
